Transition to full-screen/slideshow mode is too slow

Bug Description

It takes nearly three seconds to enter full screen mode or slide show mode after pressing the button in F-Spot's toolbar. This transition is excessive, and it makes the cross-fade effect seem long and drawn-out.

(Furthermore, pressing escape during this long transition causes a NullReferenceException which crashed F-Spot. This is a separate bug, but shows that F-Spot is not rock solid during this transition.)

This patch changes the full screen fade from 3 seconds to 1 second. 0.6 seconds would have been ideal but the method requires an integer.

Frankly, I think it would be nice to have an option to turn off the transition effects altogether. It looks cool the two times you use it, but to me becomes annoying after that.

I suppose that this would be a feature request beyond the papercuts project. Thanks for working on speeding it up though.

Martin Lindhe (martinlindhe) wrote :

I agree with Nat. But perhaps can this papercut be solved simply with an ability to "disable pretty effects" checkbox setting?

We should just fix the slow transition and not create a new checkbox.
What is needed here is a better default behavior. F-Spot should strike
the right balance between "pretty effects" and performance -- surely
every application shouldn't add an "ugly mode" toggle ;)

The 3-second transition is egregious, so turning the transition off
would also be an acceptable solution if we cannot simply speed it up.

Thank you for your work there, I'm unsubscribing the sponsors since the change seems to still need to some work to get the correct value, I will review the hundredpapercut round and upload changes before beta if we don't get anything better by then though

Here's a patch to allow double values, so that a 0.6 value can be used for entering full screen mode.

Did you try the change? The second part of the change lacks a ";", the first one doesn't work either to the DoubleAnimation() change apparently, not sure why but I will let somebody who does C# to figure this one or have a look later when I've time to debug this one. I will change it to use 1 second for now...
