Changing file associations in KDE is hard

Bug Description

It's quite hard, especially compared to GNOME, to change the file associations of a file in KDE. I have to open the properties and click a tiny button with a wrench on it, in order to open a separate dialog which finally allows me to change the file associations in an ordered list. This is way too hard and should be just as simple as it is in GNOME.

Instead of using the small icon, maybe the button should say [Change...]? Or, maybe the File Type is clickable with an ellipsis beside it and you click on the File Type or ellipsis to bring up the file type dialog. Should talk to upstream about this.

Erm, how is this much more complicated than in gnome?
GNOME:
a) right click -> open properties -> go to 'Open With' -> add the app you want
b) right click -> open with application -> select the app you want and select 'remember this app...'

KDE:
a) right click -> open properties -> click on the file type config button -> select the app you want
b) right click -> open with -> other... -> select the app you want and select 'Remember app association ...'

I don't see much difference there.

For the button: please file a bug about dolphin at
https://bugs.kde.org/enter_bug.cgi?product=dolphin&format=guided
so the developers can talk to you directly. I think the button is fine, but using something like [_ICON_ "Change..."] instead might be better indeed. About the seperate window: That's simply because it's a different application (KEditFileType) and not part of the file manager.

So almost nine years have passed and the upstream bug is still showing as 'Confirmed'.

I'm removing the Papercuts task as no-one from the current Ubuntu or Kubuntu teams are ever going to add or amend any functionality with respect to changing file associations in the KDE desktop.

This is an upstream issue that need to be dealt with directly with the KDE developers.
