Bug Description
if you compare the space loses by several file manager, nautilus is in bad position.
even on my full hd screen (1920x1080), it's way too big by default. (even bigger than vista..)
i understand some users need to have big icons, separate by big space between them. ok, but the way it's done, is that no-one would ever magnify nautilus by 133, 150 or 200% (except if you have eyes pblm)
i suggest to reduce them by default to the same way "explorer" on ms windows would display (and even with my suggestion, it'll be bigger than on mswindows)
- icon view :
compact layout by default
font size of the icon should be reduced by 10-20% (max 10 caracters per icon is too short for other language than english, 15 caracters would be better)
66% default would be perfect, but the icon would need to be redesigned..
- list view :
33% default
- compact view
66% default
columns have the same width by default, but should be longer. 15 caracters at least.
I come back with the 100%,66%,50%,33%. There's no enough choice. the pblm is that nautilus is always too big, i don't see who would use the 133%, 150%, 200%. This make me think that perhaps the 66% of today, need to be the 100% of tomorrow.
Also, perhaps there should be 2 profiles created in the preferences..
- one "classic", the way nautilus is now.
- one "productive", the way nautilus should be (in my opinion)
i don't talk about any toolbar...
i don't talk about moving elements..
i just talk about changing the default display size of nautilus, and perhaps display more caracters on a filename in some case.
