Bug Description
desktop icons should have the ability to show their label on the right side (as is already possible in nautilus, but not on the desktop) and not only on bottom. Plus, there should be a way to change labels colors to match light background. The default is always white, which means i can't use white (or another light color) for my wallpaper without killing my eyes to read.

This is not a "paper cut" because it is not a general usability issue, but rather a a feature request that might benefit a relatively small user population.
You should file a separate bug against your font colour issue.
