Bug Description

Binary package hint: nautilus

Scenario:
Jane saved her recently editited monkey.png in a folder. She forgets where the folder is and wants to find the image and other animal pictures that are in that folder. She goes to Places->Recent Documents->monkey.png and discovers she can only open the file. She cannot locate her special animals folder and is disheartened.

In the 'Places' menu it makes sense to be able to open the containing folder of your recent documents. This is where a right-click context menu would come in handy:

Open with "Text Editor"
Open With...
Open containing folder
---
Remove from list

or:

Open with "Text Editor"
Open With..
Show in File Browser
---
Remove from list

Not that it makes any difference, but the upstream bug is soon going to be 7 years old.
I'm not sure this qualifies as a Papercut bug, it would be a new feature... although it would be a boon to functionality & usability if fixed.

Can someone explain the proposed solution? Nanley, can you please provide mockups so we are all on the same page about what you are proposing?

The upstream bug can be found on the right sidebar.
Soliac's first comment pretty much sums it up without words.
Nonetheless, I've attached a mockup of the context menu that the Recent Documents list should have.

A first patch is posted upstream. If you're a developer, you are more than welcome to take a look at it and help me hide the main menu after you've selected an item from the context menu ;-)
