Simple work around is 'sudo apt install libopenexr22'

The problem is that the ubuntu wants matlab, which I do not have :

Dependencies.txt shows that libopenexr22 is installed, and installing the latest version of imagemagick installs that package. Additionally, I was unable to recreate this issue after installing imagemagick in a clean xenial chroot.
