sudo apt-get install birdfont

=> birdfont: error while loading shared libraries: libxmlbird.so.1.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

while => dpkg -L libxmlbird1

Creating an symbolic link solve this problem for me

# ln /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libxmlbird.so.1 /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libxmlbird.so.1.0

It should work, libxmlbird.so.1.0 is ABI compatible with libxmlbird.so.1.3.

I did just learn how so version should be updated but I have not found
any Ubuntu document with instructions regarding the so version yet.

On a 32 bit Trusty, This works as an workaround. Thanks to San Lin

sudo ln -s /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libxmlbird.so.1 /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libxmlbird.so.1.0
