Bug Description

Ubuntu Wily AMD64
easymp3gain-gt 0.5.0+svn135 amd64

This system was installed with 15.04 and updated to 15.10 after an uefi hard disk mess up.

Tried to used easymp3gain-gtk since many years with success to this program, installed it and tried out.

- Scan results to 'mp3gain tool is missing'
- So i did "apt-get install mp3gain' with result 'not found'

So i searched for the latest release and found it at 14.04 LTS. After install of this old version, easymp3gain-gtk is able to do his job.

mp3gain 1.5.2-r2-6 amd64

Suggestion:
Method-1: Eliminate all easymp3gain variants as they are useless without mp3gain
Method-2: Place mp3gain in the repos again to make all easymp3gain variants usable again

Keep in mind that easyMp3Gain can also be used with VorbisGain, which is still in the archive, so it is still useful to some people.
In any case, since easyMp3Gain is unmaintained upstream for years now, it is likely that it will be dropped some time in the future, when updating it downstream doesn't make sense anymore.

Are you saying we need windows to do this simple task for now on?

No wily yet but vivid does the job

Btw, just for the record: mp3gain has been removed from Debian (and subsequently Ubuntu too) because of severe security issues. See https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=742112 for details.
So, in order to properly reintroduce it, some work needs to be done to make it secure and update it's code.

And the last mp3gain deb package from Ubuntu 14.04 doesn't install in Wily anyway, because of a dependency on an old lib. It's a pity, because the replacements (eg replaygain) don't work with all players because they don't write the gain to each mp3 frame.

mp3gain should be made a dependency of easymp3gain-gtk in Debian nowadays.

I simply use aacgain for both aac and mp3 files. Installed aacgain from a PPA (https://launchpad.net/~robert-tari/+archive/ubuntu/main), then just set easymp3gain's "MP3Gain backend" to "aacgain".
