Bug Description

I'm using Audacity 2.0.6 on Xubuntu 15.10, but I got the same problem on other ubuntu versions.

When I want to export an audio track, e.g. in MP3, the file extension in the Name bar is always AIFF. I have to change it manually. If I cange the filetype from the menu, the file extension remains AIFF.

This is not an important bug, but the file extension should change when changing file type.

I get the same thing. My preferred export format is ogg (as seen in my audacity.cfg), but aiff is always shown.
If I export as ogg, but let the aiff extension stay, I am warned about the using aiff extension on an ogg file.
If I proceed without changing the extension to ogg, nautilus shows aiff in the basic properties, but indicates ogg as the codec in the audio properties.
If the file I am editing has an extra . in the filename before the extension, aiff is not appended to the filename at export.
I am using 64 bit Ubuntu 15.04 and everything is up to date and was a fresh installation to a new HDD.

I am also getting this error. All file type selections leave .aiff as the extension. Deleting the extension and only selecting the required file type is successful, but tedious.

Audacity 2.0.6

I have just upgrade from Ubuntu 14.10 to 15.04

This did not occur before the upgrade and has occurred since first opening after the upgrade.

Audacity 2.1.5 still has this bug. I consider it very annoying for I went from 2.0.5 to 2.1.5 and now find that it is there ever since. Can this please (with sugar on it...:-) be fixed?

brgds, Peter

Also affects me on Ubuntu 16.10. Audacity 2.1.2. I, too, find it rather annoying but not critical.

I wrote to the developers and they don't follow the bugs on launchpad. They only use their own bug tracker.

Anyway, this bug has already been reported on their bug tracker and they are working on it (but with low priority).

Do you have a link to their bug tracker and the related issue, by chance?

Using the Portable Settings feature of Audacity 2.1.3 got rid of it for me on Ubuntu Studio 16.04.1.
Make it likely the bug is added in Ubuntu itself since it is not noticed anywhere else. It sure cut down on my frustation.
