Similar as Bug #662766 but on Ubuntu 14.04. The difference, avahi account is present, but all others are not.

That's likely true, restart of mission-control can be used as a workaround.

0. Watch endless spinner in empathy.
1. kill -TERM `pidof mission-control-5`
2. Change status via indicator applet or empathy menu.
3. Empathy is reconnecting correctly now.
