The sheet of paper in audio-x-generic is extraneous

Bug Description

The HIG advises against using extraneous information in icons, and it specifically mentions the use of a sheet of paper. A sheet of paper with a music note may be relevant if the icon is for a sheet music document, but a piece of paper has no connection with an audio file.

I think the black music note looks mighty classy, and it would look even better on its own. This is especially true in the "sources" column of music players like Rhythmbox and Banshee.

Could you add a link to the relevant part of the HIG?

Thanks Lightbreeze... and also, sorry, I should have done that in the first place.

This is still the case, and - forgive me if I'm wrong, but - it seems like it should be trivially easy to fix. Let me know what needs to be done, and I'll gladly do anything I can to help.

Michael , this bug has been _partially_ fixed[rhythmbox does not use the paper] , the update has not landed in Karmic ,
But has been done in Lucid. In the mean time you can use our ppa for Karmic:

Ha , it was you commenting on the blog ;-)

Basically, we have not fixed this bug because we have not been able to come up with an icon which removes the paper and allows the use of the mime type. And looks decent enough. [yes , would would want to retain the mime names, HIG forbids it but HIG there is crap!]
If you have any ideas , do mention this asap. This bug really bugs me too ;) I would want to get this fixed for Lucid . We want ideas within a few [2-3?] days beyond which changing icons becomes near to impossible.

A fellow Omg!Ubuntu! reader, are you? ;) I agree that the HIG could be a little more useful here, and as you probably read in my post, I was admittedly using the HIG mostly to justify my own dislike of the piece of paper. :-p Convenient that you need ideas within the next 2-3 days, because the next 2-3 days happen to be weekend days! Yay! So I'll give this some though and propose rough mockups if I come up with anything worthwhile.
