Hi Rob,

Please can you install the latest hplip-3.11.7 by downloading it from http://hplipopensource.com/hplip-web/gethplip.html and install it by running command "sh hplip-3.11.7.run"

Let us know the issue is still same on hplip-3.11.7 version.

Thanks & Regards,

HI Goutam,

Yes I did that exact thing to try and resolve the problem but it still persist. Please see messages below:

Aug 16 08:05:44 (none) xsane: io/hpmud/dot4.c 480: unable to read Dot4ReverseData header: Resource temporarily unavailable hp:/usb/Officejet_4500_G510n-z?serial=CN048H505M05HR

It also states Failed to start scanner: Error during device I/O.

Note: hp-check can be run in three modes:
1. Compile-time check mode (-c or --compile): Use this mode before compiling the
HPLIP supplied tarball (.tar.gz or .run) to determine if the proper dependencies
are installed to successfully compile HPLIP.
2. Run-time check mode (-r or --run): Use this mode to determine if a distro
supplied package (.deb, .rpm, etc) or an already built HPLIP supplied tarball
has the proper dependencies installed to successfully run.
3. Both compile- and run-time check mode (-b or --both) (Default): This mode
will check both of the above cases (both compile- and run-time dependencies).

Delete all the existing queues and exit systray running (Right top corner, right click on HP icon and quit). Connect the printer again and do scanning.

You can run "hp-scan -g" and put the output here.

Thanks,
