Bug Description

I am unable to setup my printer using the hp-setup tool; it complains about not being able to find the printer's PPD file using both the "old" and "new" algorithms. The problem is reproducible using the following steps:

 1. Run hp-setup as root
 2. Search for a network printer using SLP
 3. Select the printer from the list of found devices
 4. Error (sample text output from hp-setup is shown below)

My system information is below:

 - Linux distribution/version: Gentoo, current as of March 9, 2010
 - Printer: HP PSC 2510 photosmart w/duplexer
 - HPLIP version: 3.10.2

Detailed logs from hp-setup and hp-check are attached to this bug report.

Below is the output you've requested. It is also worth mentioning that when installing the printer via the CUPS web interface it works correctly, only "hp-setup" has problems finding the printer's PPD.

Paul,

You can get the ppd file from your installation folder. For eg.

hplip-3.10.2/ppd/hpcups/hp-psc_2500_series.ppd.gz/hp-psc_2500_series.ppd

Now paste the ppd file in your desktop. Then while running hp-setup, if it is asking for ppd file, you can select the same ppd file which is saved in your desktop and follow the necessary steps. Hope this works fine.

Thanks,
Anitha

As stated in comment #4, I have found a workaround by using the CUPS interface to install the printer; however, regardless of the workaround, it would seem that there is still a fairly serious bug in the HP printer tools that prevents hp-setup for installing/configuring the PSC 2500 series printers.
