Bug Description

I have a problem with my 930c locking up when I try to print a Photo. It freezes with all 3 lights flickering, and all I can do it turn it off and on again. It continues to work fine then, but I still can not send a photo to the printer. I am using settings for "High Resolution Photo" for the quality and "Photo Paper" for the paper type.

I did find this similar bug: https://bugs.launchpad.net/hplip/+bug/258487, however it is marked as fix released and does not mention anywhere my printer. Could it be the same bug?

Thanks in advance.

(hp-check -t output it attached)

i have the same printer HP 930C giving me the exact same problem, printer freezes with all 3 lights flickering when I try to print on 4x6 inch photo paper. Printing on A4 paper is working fine.
I'm currently using Ubuntu 10.10 (maverick)
looking around on the internet i discovered that the current user should also be part of the group "lp" which was not the case on my system, after adding the user to group "lp" the problem still persisted. On another bug report (Debian #556406) I discovered that the package "gs-esp" did solve the problem.

After installing the package "gs-esp" (apt-get install gs-esp) I was indeed able to print on photo paper format 4x6 inch

on another PC with Debian (sid) I had the exact same problem.
Linux version 2.6.32-5-686 (Debian 2.6.32-26) (<email address hidden>) (gcc version 4.3.5 (Debian 4.3.5-4) ) #1 SMP Tue Oct 19 14:40:34 UTC 2010

Here is how it got solved:

1) - add the user(s) to the group "lp" and "lpadmin"
2) - install the package "gs-esp"
3) - remove the already installed printer (e.g. HEWLETT-PACKARD DESKJET 970C)
System -> Maintenance -> Printing (remove existing printer)
4) - install a new printer (e.g. HEWLETT-PACKARD DESKJET 970C)
System -> Maintenance -> Printing (install a new printer)

The above procedure solved my photo (4x6 inch) printing problem on two different systems, Ubuntu and Debian
