Bug Description

Hello guys...this is NOT SOLVED! as stated in https://answers.launchpad.net/hplip/+question/62975

Today I installed a HP Laserjet 1018 printer the Acer 4520 laptop, of my boss, via usb (no usb hub, just direct plug) using HPLIP 3.9.10 on Ubuntu 9.10, the result was great...or almost great...because after rebooting Ubuntu, the printer doesn't print anyting!

Annoyance secuence:
1 print as many pages you want (tahts is actually ok)
2 go for lunch, so turn off laptop
3 go back and boot Ubuntu/Linux
2 some noise is given by the printer (maybe startup?)
3 the printer is listed in my printers admin panel
4 send something to print...nothing happens print spool says "processing, is the printer pluged in?"

To solve it, i have to (It is real, I´m not kidding):
1 unplug usb
2 turn off printer
3 turn on printer
4 plug in usb

And after a few secconds, te printer is listed again, accepting jobs, and...REALLY PRINTING...wow, at last!, i can´t believe it!

Please....what is on wrong with this?

Is there a sane way to get this printer stable on Linux?, you know, just pluggin it and be working all day long, without the need of all this kung-fu workarounds...jeje, imagine me explaining all this steps to my boss...

Now serious, please provide exact steps to solve this annoyance...

Thanks a lot in advice

Looks like the printer entered some sleep mode ?

Also look at this bug report, it indicates other files are needed to have this printer working:

I experience the same issue. I figured out that after a reboot and after turning on the printer, it is in the paused status. If I login to the CUPS administration interface and from manage printers, I select the option to resume the printer, then it works ok.

So, after having the printer off and turning it on to print, I first have to resume it from the CUPS interface. Then, it works fine. There's no need to turn off the printer, unplug the USB interface, plug it in and turn on the printer.
