OfficeJet Pro l7700 - will not print legal landscape properly

Bug Description
OS: Ubuntu 9.10
Printer: OfficeJet Pro L7780
Program: OpenOffice
Problem: When printing a legal landscape page, the leftmost part of the page will not print. The rightmost 11 inches prints properly (i.e. the printer thinks it is dealing with 8.5x11 inch paper). The file prints properly under Ubuntu 9.04. I notice with U9.04 the driver is hpijs while with 9.10 the driver is hpcups. I had no success in installilng printer with hpijs in 9.10, would be glad to try it if you could give me some instructions to help me bludgeon the system into submission. I did try setting legal landscape everywhere I could find to do so with no change (Printer Settings, Printer Preferences, HP Printer Utility, . . . ). Also, all programs initially select fax when printing even though printer is set as default in CUPS. This may be connected or may be a separate bug, perhaps in CUPS. Selecting the printer in the print dialog works correctly and prints correctly, but the next time it is defaulted to fax again (fax is the last entry in the drop down list).
