Thank you very much for your help, python command worked, I am one step closer.
I was able to select the Parallel port on the first screen of GUI, but  on the next screen - 
Select from Discovered Devices - nothing, just empty screen. 



Because of the Parallel port I selected "r=restart" which rested my machine. Once it came back, 
I ran:

tsp0001@tsp0001-desktop:~/Desktop/hplip-3.9.8$ /usr/bin/hp-setup

Just FYI.... I used this printer just
yesterday  on WindowsXP - so it is working printer/port. However, I am
not going back to Windows, will

stay with Ubuntu
