Bug Description

Move the source code to gitlab or github, so contributing is trivial and fixes are encouraged to be made upstream.

That is insane! Make it easy to contribute to hplip, and all those issues will be fixed on the original code.

HP are presumably using version control internally.

Rather than go over their heads and maintain a separate repository, ideally they would put one up themselves. Has someone tried asking them, instead of mocking them here?

Using a git repository of hplip releases in order to track changes relevant to patches carried by Debian is another thing, but that's up to Debian - I'm sure they have tools for updating patches when a new release tarball comes out, many projects work that way so they'd be used to it I would think.

Sorry, I see that launchpad is actually HPLIP's official bug-tracker - I thought you were reporting a bug against the Ubuntu package specifically. So this is the right place to make this request (I would still advise against the mockery though!).
