Bug Description

Heya! im trying to install HLIP for Ubuntu 20.04 using the command sh hplip-3.20.6.run

and i get the following error

|Gtk-Message: 12:43:08.580: Failed to load module "canberra-gtk-module"
error: A required dependency 'pyqt5 (PyQt 5- Qt interface for Python (for Qt version 4.x))' is still missing.
error: Installation cannot continue without this dependency.
error: Please manually install this dependency and re-run this installer.

anyone know how i install pyqt5 manually? I got it for Python3, and tried to install it for python2, but im having a lot of problems.

Could you please try installing hplip-3.20.6.run ?

Hi hub18,

you can try hplip packaged by your OS distro - if your device was supported by older versions, new version usually doesn't bring much new to your device.

Or, depending whether your device supports it, try driverless printing (https://wiki.debian.org/CUPSDriverlessPrinting#Creating_a_Driverless_Print_Queue_with_lpadmin_.28Short_Version.29) and driverless scanning (sane-airscan).
