Bug Description

* error message to launchpad [2020-03-23 Mon 00:32]

I have a supported printer HP 1606dn network printer which I used successfully with previous versions of HPLIP over the last 10 years. I've upgraded to Fedora 31 and
with a scratch installation. I get a number of errors indicated and fail to be able to print any documents.

Errors:
1. Dialogue window displays message: "No system tray detected on this system. Unable to start, exiting."
2. HPLIP fails to install printer driver in Printers list in Gnome Settings dialogue.
3. When I press 'print' or Ctrl + P the HP 1606dn fails to be listed in available printers.
4. Checking for HP Properitery Plugin's.... No plug-in printers are configured. - This issue would seem to be at the heart of the issue!

Note this issue descripber here is very similar to an issue reported on a Linux Mint 18.3 installing 3.20.3 a driver for the 1606dn network printer. https://bugs.launchpad.net/hplip/+bug/1496994

dependencies are installed to successfully compile HPLIP.
2. Run-time check mode (-r or --run): Use this mode to determine if a distro supplied package (.deb, .rpm, etc) or an already built HPLIP supplied tarball has
the proper dependencies installed to successfully run.
3. Both compile- and run-time check mode (-b or --both) (Default): This mode will check both of the above cases (both compile- and run-time dependencies).

Hi ,

For your errors

1-Dialogue window displays message: "No system tray detected on this system. Unable to start, exiting." - This will not effect the printing and scanning on your, this error can be ignored

2-HPLIP fails to install printer driver in Printers list in Gnome Settings dialogue. -
Add the printer by running "hp-setup" command in the terminal and follow the steps mentioned there.

3 -When I press 'print' or Ctrl + P the HP 1606dn fails to be listed in available printers-
When the previous setup completes the printer will now be listed.

4 -Checking for HP Properitery Plugin's.... No plug-in printers are configured. - This issue would seem to be at the heart of the issue!
Try installing the plugin from https://developers.hp.com/hp-linux-imaging-and-printing/plugins
and install it using
>> sh hplip-3.20.3-plugin.run

Dear Anam,
Many thanks for your email and steps to resolve the problems that I've been
having.
I have to say that I had doubts that I would ever be able to use the HP
printer again with Linux.
I had spent many many hours trying to resolve the issue before receiving
your email without success.
So it is with great delight that I followed your instructions and have just
managed to print a pdf document and am very happy!

Thank so much for your help.

Regards,
