Bug Description

Most recent version of hplip v3.19.3 has 2 issues. On install of the scanner plugin, the process continues to cycle back to the start of install the plugin, however, the plugin seems to install OK.

The next, more important issue, is that with hplip v3.19.3 Xsane does not find the scanner. It does find and try to use a usb webcam on my laptop, but will not find the scanner. Downgrading to hplip v3.18.12 allows a selection box in Xsane to select the scanner. I've run hp-check for both versions of hplip, but I don't see any difference in the output which I've attached.

OS: Arch
Kernel: 5.0.7
CUPS: 2.2.11-1

This appears to be a duplicate of

https://bugs.launchpad.net/hplip/+bug/1821079 (and #1824547)

The advice on how to restore scanning looks good. Unfortunately, you will probably now hit LP #1797501, which is discussed in that report and at

https://bugs.launchpad.net/hplip/+bug/1817214

Do you experience #1797501?

You got quite a bit of information in response to your issue, but

wasn't an idle question.

Sorry, didn't read the last sentence.

No, "scanimage -L" produces the expected output:

device `hpaio:/net/HP_LaserJet_100_colorMFP_M175nw?ip=192.168.1.2' is a Hewlett-Packard HP_LaserJet_100_colorMFP_M175nw all-in-one

Thank you very much for this. It motivated me to rerun some tests. I am on Debian with 3.18.12.

The first three characters of ty= are still removed but, if hpmud throws an error (no tag header for the device in models.dat), it re-adds HP_. That leads to success in your situation.

Not a mention of this HPLIP change in the Release Notes or in LP #1797501.
