hplip install hangs on "running pre-package commands"

`HP printer Laserjet 100 colour MFP M175nw not recognised after upgrading to Ubuntu 18.04, trying to install latest hplip 3.18.7.run, it gets to "running pre package commands --- sudo dpkg --configure -a and then sits there

Did the printer work before upgrading? Why install hplip 3.18.7.run? What is wrong with using the hplip packages from the new distribution?

Hi,
We see the required dependency packages didn't get installed properly from the hp-check log. Make sure the network connection is good during the installation. Can you rty re-installing the 3.18.7 run file and update whether the installation process went through with no errors or not?

Hi Peter,

There is an existing installation of HPLIP 3.17.11. so run the below steps to remove it.

sudo apt-get purge hplip hplip-data hplip-doc hplip-gui hpijs-ppds \
libsane-hpaio printer-driver-hpcups printer-driver-hpijs
sudo rm -rf /usr/share/hplip/

sudo apt-get autoremove

Then run "sh hplip 3.18.7.run" to install latest HPLIP driver.
If you face the reported issue again
then run the command "sudo dpkg --configure -a" manually in terminal and see if there is any lock. If so try to remove the lock and re-run the installer.
