HP LJ Pro 1102 can't be set over Wifi

In the case where wifi is not set up or incorrect, the above printer cannot be set up. Please tell me what I'm doing wrong.
1. Run 'sudo hp-setup' with usb connection to printer ( Step 1 of 3). Select 802.11 <blah> & click Next
2. It searches the usb bus, finds my printer, and I agree (Step 2 of 5). Click on Next
3. We then choose from the available WiFi networks (Step 3 of 5). Click on Next.
4. I set the WPA password, Mode of encryption, etc (Step 4 of 5). Click on Next. A long delay ensues. It does stuff, I see a dialog box timing out on searching for the printer on wifi. I can tell from accessing the router that it doesn't connect. It would connect on the wifi IP I had reserved for it on my 'Guest Access' open network if it was available, but not on the protected network.
5. HPLIP pronounces itself successful, and happy (Step 5 of 5). It then issues connection details (which differ from instance to instance) and either tells me to run
     a) Run 'hp-setup' next if it has discovered no meaningful network details or
     b) Run 'hp-setup <printer-ip>' next and that I can remove the usb connection if it has some inadequate network details. If I do this, it immediately pukes because the printer can't be found.

It appears the Static IP assigned by the router can't be set up. The printer remains silent throughout.
I have Slackware64-current, hplip-3.18.6, python-2.7.15 & python3-3.6.5. Python-six, python-setuptools & python-pillow are also installed.

The output from hp-doctor & hp-check was the same

Hi Declan,

Please try the below options to add printer with wifi.

1.During driver installation
Have both printer and your system are in same wifi network.
Then select wireless/802.11 option and follow the subsequent steps
or you can invoke hp-wificonfig command to do same procedure.

2.With CUPS,
Have both printer and your system are in same wifi network.
Then open localhost:631, select IPP protocol, give the printer's ip, choose HP and do susbsequent steps to
add printer.

If above options does not resolve the issue, run "hp-logcapture" command and share the generated logs.
