Bug Description

I use the last HPLIP.

It seems to work for A4 printing. I could also SCAN some pages.

I configured the printer to have
Tray 1 --> A4
Tray 2 --> A3

When printing in A3 from gnome on CentOS 7.3 I found no way to configure the selection of the 2nd Tray. The printing is always sent to the first tray and the printer complain the format of the paper in the tray does not correspond to the document being printed. Then it stop.

Hi,

Please replace the existing PPD with the attached PPD at /hplip-3.16.X/ppd/hpcups.

Modifications will be part of the next release of HPLIP.

Thanks,
kritika

Hello,

While the HPLIP-3.17.4 release notes say this bug has been fixed, the PPD that comes with it still has only one tray named "Main Tray" in it.

The above PPD with "Tray 1" and "Tray 2" works fine.

Thanks,

I observe this defect with hplip-3.18.6 on Ubuntu 16.04.5 LTS.

I am unable to access Tray 2. I am only able to select "Main Tray".

However, when I locate the PPD file at
/usr/share/ppd/HP/hp-officejet_pro_7740_series.ppd.gz
I find that it includes Tray 1 and Tray 2

*OpenUI *InputSlot/Media Source: PickOne
*OrderDependency: 10 AnySetup *InputSlot
*DefaultInputSlot: Upper
*InputSlot Upper/Tray 1: "<</MediaPosition 1>>setpagedevice"
*InputSlot Lower/Tray 2: "<</MediaPosition 4>>setpagedevice"
*CloseUI: *InputSlot

This text appears identically in the PPD file linked from this article.

The instructions linked above reference the path /hplip-3.16.X/ppd/hpcups
I don't appear to have an hplip-3.18.6 directory on my system.

I don't understand how I can have Tray 1 and Tray 2 in my PPD file and both CUPS and the HP Device Manager show only Main Tray. This suggests that the printer queue set up when the printer was installed is using another PPD file?

I unzipped the PPD file from
/usr/share/ppd/HP/hp-officejet_pro_7740_series.ppd.gz
and I manually changed the printer queue to use this file.
Now I can select from Tray 1 or Tray 2.
This has solved my problem, and I am now able to print to A3 paper.

Could you please check that the CUPS printer setup process selects the correct PPD file for this printer.

Please notice that this very annoying bug is still present in hplip 3.18.10 and also in 3.19.11. I did the procedure described here a number of times but it is very annoying to have to repeat it at every software upgrade.
