Bug Description

The current hplip 3.16.8 under Arch Linux broke the printing filter: printing fails with a cups "Filter failed" error. The cups error_log shows the reason:

D [29/Aug/2016:23:16:52 +0200] [Job 1066] File \"/usr/lib/cups/filter/hpps\", line 194
D [29/Aug/2016:23:16:52 +0200] [Job 1066] for x in szKeyInitials:
D [29/Aug/2016:23:16:52 +0200] [Job 1066] ^
D [29/Aug/2016:23:16:52 +0200] [Job 1066] TabError: inconsistent use of tabs and spaces in indentation
D [29/Aug/2016:23:16:52 +0200] [Job 1066] PID 1146 (/usr/lib/cups/filter/hpps) stopped with status 1.

Removing the tab characters in /usr/lib/cups/filter/hpps and replacing them with the appropriate number of spaces fixes the problem and everything works fine. Arch by default uses python3, so mixing tabs and spaces doesn't work.
