In a guest virtuaboxed Lubuntu 14.04, I activate the usb printer from host to guest and it worked.
It seems something about hplip.
The packages hplip, cups are the same in both OS (host and guest), but in virtualized OS, kernel is 3.13.0.24 (where hplip works!), while the host OS has got the 3.13.0.33 kernel.

Reinstalling the hplip and cups debs, not solve the problem.
