Hp Deskjet 1510 printout, fonts look dotted

I got a brand new hp deskjet 1510 all in one printer.
Installed it on Linux Mint 16 and upgraded to latest hplib drivers.
Ran the hp-setup program and printed the test page. The test page seems to look fine.

The printouts are not good. The fonts in the printout are "dotted" and "starved" in appearance.
same in both normal and draft quality prints

The printer works perfect on windows.
I guess this is a driver issue.
