trying to open hplip-3.14.1 text editor grays out

Bug Description
I downloaded hplip-3.14.1 from sourceforge and when I try to open it with text editor the window grays out and after a while it returns to normal but so far I quit after a 20 minute wait as the process slowes to a crawl. What is the problem? Thank you. I'm using ubuntu 13.10 .

Hi, I'm running hplip 3.13.9 and I get the same problem when I try to run 3.13.11. Now 3.14.1 does the same.
