I tried to get HP LaserJet Professional p1606dn working over LAN with hplip 3.12.2 and 3.13.3 with no success. My system is Ubuntu 12.04, tried also packages from Ubuntu raring (13.04).
In Cups webinterface jobs list i saw error message like: "/usr/lib/cups/filter/foomatic-rip failed" or "/usr/lib/cups/filter/hpcups failed". Did not figure out what it means. In error log was lot info, i paste it below.
Printer blinked slowly ready (green) but nothing came out. Suddenly i got paper from printer with text:
**** Unable to open the initial device, quitting
I did not figure out, on what i got those errors out of printer.
**SOLUTION** for me was to use PPD from recent foo2zjs, Ubuntu package versions did not worked too.
