Bug Description

Under HPLIP Software version 3.12.6 our HP Officejet 6500 is recognized by Ubuntu 12.10 (64 bits) but will not print.
The output of the print test page is the following : "HP Device proprietary plug-in is missing"
We have proceeded at several tests with two different machines under Ubuntu 12.10.
Thanks for your help.

Can you please install the latest hplip-3.13.2 from www.hplip.net .

Run 'hp-setup' and it will ask for a plugin file to install if it is missing. After the setup, you can use printing.

Do let us know your results.

I have the exact same problem.

I removed the deb packages (apt-get remove hplip hplip-data hplip-gui) and then manually installed HPLIP (sh hplip-3.13.3.run, got from http://hplipopensource.com/hplip-web/install/manual/index.html) as documented at http://hplipopensource.com/hplip-web/install/install/index.html

Although the popup "HP Device proprietary plug-in is missing" is no more shown, the print job is still not successful: all is printed is "**** Unable to open the initial device, quitting." on a white page.

I then launched hp-plugin as root (sudo hp-plugin), which successfully installed the "plugin" (from fallback location: [http://hplipopensource.com/hplip-web/plugin/hplip-3.13.3-plugin.run])... but the printout is still as broken as before.

I cannot print anything on this.

PS: note that it did worked on Ubuntu 12.10 for me before. The problem is that I cannot tell what package has been updated between working and broken states.

It now works. I did nothing for this, but I noticed there were three printers "Officejet_6500_E710n-z" "-1" and "-2" and I guess I was still printing on the first one. The two others, installed through the hplip doc, are working well.
