Bug Description

I have two Dell OPtiplex machines, both running Linux Mint-12. O one, using a HP inkjet, hplip is quick and easy to install. On the othr, connected to an hp2600n, manual instalation is advised, but fails to download and install the plug-in. Automatic installation (with warnings about dependencies) asl fails to download and install the plug-in. Isthere any way of downloading the plug-in file?

Hi Ian Sinclair,

Can you provide the following commands output, to analyse further.

$ hp-check

$ su -c "hp-plugin -g"

Note:- if both machines has same HPLIP version installed, plugin can be copied from one machine to another as follows.
1) on working machine, run hp-plugin
$ hp-plugin

2) this downloads file in "/tmp" with name as "hplip-x.x.x-plugin.run and hplip-x.x.x-plugin.run.asc". copy this to another machine.

3) run following command in another machine.

$ sh hplip-x.x.x-plugin.run (i.e. x.x.x stand hplip version).

Thanks & Regards,
Amarnath

hp-check gives "no errors or warnings"

The other command gives only a syntax reminder:

ian@ian-BigDell:~$ sudo -c "hp-plugin -g"
usage: sudo [-D level] -h | -K | -k | -V
usage: sudo -v [-AknS] [-D level] [-g groupname|#gid] [-p prompt] [-u user
             name|#uid]
usage: sudo -l[l] [-AknS] [-D level] [-g groupname|#gid] [-p prompt] [-U
user
             name] [-u user name|#uid] [-g groupname|#gid] [command]
usage: sudo [-AbEHknPS] [-C fd] [-D level] [-g groupname|#gid] [-p
prompt] [-u
             user name|#uid] [-g groupname|#gid] [VAR=value] [-i|-s]
[<command>]
usage: sudo -e [-AknS] [-C fd] [-D level] [-g groupname|#gid] [-p
prompt] [-u
             user name|#uid] file .

Regards,

Ian

Sorry, I have changed OS since last problem. Now using Xubuntu 12.04,
and HP-plugin seems to work. Problem now is that the request to install
the plugin comes up each time I switch the printer on, but I can ignore
it and find that printing is normal. Is tthere any way of suppressing
the request to download (must be a bit set that triggers this notice
when the printer is switched on)
