Bug Description

i,
thanks fro developing HomeBank. I found this feature request on the Debian bug tracker (https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=751299) and from what I see it is not implemented jet, so copying it here:

This software could benefit from a feature called "account adjustment" in some
of its competitors e.g. Microsoft Money 2003: as HomeBank is right now you can
only set a starting balance and transactions are incrementally applied over
that.

In certain scenarios (like keeping track of your paper money), the ability to
record the value of an account at any arbitrary moment would greatly enhance
the usability of this program.

Best regards
Philip

doh a wish input in the wrong place in 2014 !

well, yes that's how an accurate accounting should work, you have an input balance then every txn is supposed to fill the gap for the current balance.

What is your use case precisely ?
And why not input a txn wjth the required gap ?

I think MS Money etc do adjustments by creating that transaction anyway, at least in my experience. So having to do it manually shouldn't be too onerous (unless someone has lots of accounts they do it to every month!).

This is something I do monthly, or qtrly, depending on the account - create a transaction with category "Investment Gain/Loss" (with a suitably named sub-category). That way HomeBank keeps the account balance in step with current value. And I can always use a report on sub-category to see how the value has varied over time.

The user has to enter something to adjust the value of the account, so why not just leave it to the user to "enter a transaction" for a specific date as and when required?
