Bug Description

I created a csv import of categories based on this help text: homebank/help/misc-csvformat.html#cat

I named it categories.csv.

When I navigate to it from the import>csv menu option, it won't let me get to the next screen and says that it's an "Unknown/invalid file".

Is there a log that will tell me WHY it's unknown/invalid? I can't figure it out. I tested with both UTF-8 and ANSI encodings with no difference.

This is version 5.1.2 of Homebank on Windows 10 Pro

Thank you.

(I've attached the file)

Here's my payee csv file which had exactly the same problem - so there's something that I must be missing because it doesn't get any simpler than the payee csv file! ;-/

Ok - my bad - I didn't understand WHERE one imports the CSV files for the payees and categories. Now they work...

EXCEPT two things:

1. I have 3 levels of categories (I'm trying to transfer to HomeBank from Quicken) and it would be nice to have more than just 2 levels. How many? I don't know. Anyway, this would be a WISH.

2. Since I'm importing from Quicken and since HomeBank provides the ability to have a default category for a payee, I would LOVE to be able to have the ability to import the default category for a payee. It's not what is documented but I'll see if it works anyway.

You can change this from a bug to a wishlist post.

Thanks!

Hello,

1. limitation is 2 level: categories and subcategories: no plan to go anyway further

2. so far I know Quicken do not export such a direct csv file (payee and default category).
So I would suggest you use standard account import to manage categories/payee import/creation, then do associate into HomeBank directly.
If I am wrong (for Quicken ability to export such file), let me know

I have Quicken 2014 Home and Business. I don't know for other versions, but in this version, you can go to the "memorized payees" dialog, select print, and then select the printed output to be directed to a tab-separated-values (tsv) file that you can easily paste into Excel and create a csv for default payee categorization. Sooooo...that really would be a nice thing to be able to import into the automatic assignment dialog.
