Bug Description
Running up-to-date Ubuntu 16.04 LTS under VirtualBox 5.1.22 (latest) on a Windows 7 HP 430 G3 laptop.
Am able to blank the X display in the Virtualbox session by running geomview with its satellite display module SaVi:
sudo apt-get install geomview
sudo apt-get install savi
geomview -run savi
and then, from the rendering menu, select 'Show coverage cones' to draw a single OpenGL cone. Entire X Window is unresponsive, all you can do is reset the virtual machine
Now, I've helped maintain savi and geomview for decades, and I've never seen anything like this. I'm guessing it's a regression in the X code in Ubuntu, but am unsure. SaVi asking geomview to draw a cone, geomview doing the opengl calls, X displaying them.... this looks like a low-level problem, but in X or in Virtualbox I do not know

Why is this bug here? AFAIK, hashit is not used by geomview and savi.
