The people at DotDeb patched with Suhosin the 5.3.1 release, which was a show-stoppers for including 5.3 on Karmic... I guess this is a step forward for making 5.3 available to all.

It would be great to have LTS with php 5.3 available.

Thank you for your interest in Ubuntu Backports. Being that hardy has 13 months of life left, 5.3 broke a lot of applications, and Lucid (10.04 LTS) is available with 5.3.2 and another 3+ years of support, I"m marking this bug as won't fix. Please feel free to request other backports in the future.
