Bug Description

When I have the Messages view open and I resize the window vertically,
the editor pane is resized and the size of the messages pane is
preserved. I think it should be the other way around: the editor pane
should be fixed in size as far as possible, and the messages pane
should be elastic.

I have Gwibber installed on Ubuntu Jaunty, from the daily PPA:

gwibber:
  Installed: 2.0.0~bzr396-0ubuntu2~daily1~jaunty
  Candidate: 2.0.0~bzr396-0ubuntu2~daily1~jaunty
  Version table:
 *** 2.0.0~bzr396-0ubuntu2~daily1~jaunty 0
        500 http://ppa.launchpad.net jaunty/main Packages
        100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

More generally, the editor pane should *always* have a consistent height. Things that currently change the height in undesirable ways:

* Resizing the window (as reported originally here)
* Initiating a reply
* Showing/hiding the status bar

I'm going to update the summary accordingly.

summary: - When resizing window, the editor pane changes size; the messages pane
- should resize
+ Editor height should not change when window resizes, reply is initiated,
+ or status bar is shown/hidden

I've attached a patch that fixes most of this bug on bug #421688.

Mostly fixed now in lp:gwibber. The only outstanding issue is the behavior of reducing textview area in reply mode.
