Bug Description

I think a neat feature would be to use dbus to update the Pidgin status in addition to Gwibber's and the other online services. I am not sure if this is possible but if there was interest I would do some research to find a way to implement it.

An alternative might be pushing it out directly to the instant messaging servers.

Advantages of direct connections: good for users of different clients, Pidgin users may not wish to push it out to every IM account (although I guess that could be configurable).

Disadvantages: need to re-enter account details in gwibber.

If adding communication with Pidgin is considered, communication with Empathy should be as well.

Another alternative could be reversing this proposal and allowing other applications to get data from Gwibber via DBus. That would require plugins for Pidgin and Empathy etc to be written, but lets Gwibber interoperate with any application that wants to (not just a select few).

I'd like to see this too. Aswell as just setting the status message for pidgin, one could pick up when a contact changes their status message and have that as an update

I have added support for setting Pidgin's status message with outgoing Gwibber messages.

Changed in gwibber:
status: New → Fix Released

If I'm not mistaken, support for setting pidgin status is gone in gwibber 2.30.x (possibly in 2.x all together, but I haven't tried earlier versions of the 2.x series). Shouldn't this bug be reopened then?
