I have the same problem. Using Kubuntu 13.10 64 bit.
If I start gweled with the terminal it says Audio Driver chosen: No sound.
I think this problem has been around for a while.
Fedora had a similar problem.
The sound works okay now in Fedora 20 With Gweled.
I hope someone can fix this problem in Ubuntu also.

It has something to do with libsdl-sound. It assumes it is there or isn't static but will build it if you have the libsdl-sound-dev's or something... I figured this out and built a fix in Ubuntu before.

The developer uses the sdl-sound developer libraries, but did not statically link them during compile, so if you insist on sound, you have to download the entire sdl sound dev libraries.

This fixes it on every Ubuntu I have seen from 11-now.

In debian, his code pulls in esound-common, and sound works.
