The new GUI can't be minimized in tray

Bug Description

In the new version (9.10.4) I see very few options, and moreover I can't find the "start minimized in tray" one, that I need most.
I used to start the old GUI with this autostart script:

gksudo --preserve-env --description /usr/share/applications/gufw.desktop "/usr/share/gufw/gufw.py --quiet"

assuming that "--quiet" would be the working option, before.

Now, how can I do to start the GUI minimized in tray?

I was experiencing the same problems. After updating to Karmic on every startup i see the ufw main screen without the opportunity to minimize that to the tray on startup. I tried to install the 9.04 version of gufw on karmic but the problem remains. Maybe something has changed in the implementation of the underlying ufw ? Maybe the developers can easily determine the problem.

Hi! You can't minimize to the systray in the new version.
This was a serius vulnerability, because you're running always (in the systray) an application as root.
You must remember that Gufw runs ufw, and ufw change the iptables rules, then you don't need run Gufw in the systray (or open), because the rules are persistent ;)
Best regards.

Hi Marcos,

i perfectly understand the vulnerability issue behind (although i didn't consider it before) but in terms of usability it is a clear drawback. What do you think about traying the application but making changes to the ruleset just after the inputting the sudo password.

The running state shall be identified by the trayicon but clicking on that requires the sudo password in the first step. Than the usability as well as the vulnerability issue should be solved, at least to me ?

Kind regards

Frederik

Marcos, should we consider to stop running gufw at startup?

@Mauro: Yes, stop Gufw at startup (you can remove the file in your ~/.config/Autostart/gufw).

@clubber: The password dialog is created from system, not from Gufw.

I will not implement this feature in the next versions, sorry!

Not only does the 9.04.2 can not be minimized to the tray, as soon as you close the package in unloads itself from memory. When you reclick on the icon it displays that it is not enable. So, what ever you guys did with the new version, it does not work like the old version of 0.20.7, in this version when you minimize it to system tray, it should keep running, but it does not, it unloads itself from memory. I am running the Ubuntu 9.04.
