Bug Description

I used Gufw 0.0.6 to define some rules. After updating to 0.0.7 these rules are not displayed by default after the first run. I got them displayed after deactivation/activation of the firewall.

Hi!
With the update the rules isn't changed.
They're in the file /var/lib/ufw/user.rules
When you update the file is the same :O
I don't undertand why not appear...
Can you give me more data?
Maybe more people had got this issue.
Thanks very much by your time for this bug ;)
Best regards.

Hi Marcos;
The rules are the same as configured in the last version, but they are only not displayed.
Which kind of informations or data you need ?
We shall wait to see if more people report this problem.

yes, if it successed in the first run, better wait for more people.
In Gufw, the rules was obtein with the command "sudo ufw status".
If not appear is strange :O
Thanks again!

The same thig is reproduced today after first running gufw. The rules are not displayed until i deactivate and activate gufw. During these operations no output are displayed on terminal.

ok i think that i found the problem.
At startup my firewall is inactive so gufw can't display rules.
but when i launch gufw it says that my firewall is active and this what causes my incomprehension.
So i think that this bug must be changed as : gufw don't report correct status of ufw at startup.
What do you think ?

Maybe comprensible...
I use this for check the enable/disable firewall:
file /etc/ufw/ufw.conf
must be has:
# set to yes to start on boot
ENABLED=yes

or
# set to yes to start on boot
ENABLED=no

What has got your file /etc/ufw/ufw.conf?
Can you check it in tests, please? thanks a lot!

Well, you have got the same version that me.

Try this test:
1.- Open the file /etc/ufw/ufw.conf with gedit.
2.- In terminal: sudo ufw status
a.- Do agrees?

3.- In terminal: sudo ufw new_status (set to the Otherwise status).
4.- Review gedit (it reloaded the file).
b.- Do agress?

Change the file when you change the status?

      No !! Strange !!

3.- In terminal: sudo ufw new_status (set to the Otherwise status).
     sudo ufw enable
     Firewall started and enabled on system startup
4.- Review gedit (it reloaded the file).
     reloaded : ENABLED=no
b.- Do agress?

Hi!
For me:
1.- Open the file /etc/ufw/ufw.conf with gedit.
     ENABLED=yes
2.- In terminal: sudo ufw status
     Firewall loaded
a.- Do agrees?
      Yes

3.- In terminal: sudo ufw new_status (set to the Otherwise status).
     sudo ufw disable
    Firewall stopped and disabled on system startup
4.- Review gedit (it reloaded the file).
     reloaded : ENABLED=no
b.- Do agress?
     Yes

For me is correct :O

Can anybody test this???

Nizar Kerkeni: Can you test with a LiveCD? Do you use Intrepid or Hardy?

Best regards.

I think is an ufw bug: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ufw/+bug/197285

But... Can you test this?
In terminal:
sudo ufw enabled

Edit the file /etc/ufw/ufw.conf with gedit.
gksudo gedit
And in ENABLED line change the ENABLED=no by:
     ENABLED=yes

Save and reboot.

then maybe all works.... :O

I think is a problem of installation of ufw :O

Hello Marcos Alvarez Costales ;)
Sorry I was too busy last time.
So here is the result of your suggestion
nothing changed :/
but i think that is an ufw bug instead of gufw, because on /etc/ufw/ufw.conf i have ENABLED=yes but when i ask for ufw status sudo ufw status i have "Firewall not loaded"
i think that gufw have to see the status of the firewall instead of the ufw.conf file, do you agree ?
in boot time i have a message that i have an error on file /etc/ufw/before.rules perhaps this is the cause of this :/

Maybe /etc/ufw/before.rules is corrupt.
Please, run LiveCD and overwrite this file in the hard disk, and check again :O
If not more people has this bug, I will put as Invalid. Sorry.
Thanks!

Maybe try removing & purging ufw, rebooting and reinstalling?

You would need to run:
sudo apt-get remove --purge ufw -> this will remove it

And after rebooting
sudo apt-get install ufw

And then reboot again and try ;)
