Please add an option to disable logging

Bug Description

UFW can easily fill a syslog with information that is not relevant to a home user (It certainly is useful on a server though). Please add an option to Gufw to disable logging. The command line option is ufw [--dry-run] logging on|off

Since Gufw is probably not intended for servers I would recommend disabling logging by default.

Thank you for the great application!

when log enabled
sudo ufw logging on ufw saves it in /var/log/messages but there is a tool to sort ufw messages only
fwanalog it saves ufw log in /var/log/fwanalog/

Can't you run sudo ufw status and parse the result? if you run it it'll say something like "Logging: [On/Off]"

costales (costales) wrote :

I can't.
Logging: [On/Off] only in Intrepid Ibex. Not appear in Hardy Heron.
And in the future is the application is translated it will not works.

So we should only enable this feature on Ubuntu 8.10 then.

Remember you can always force a locale to be used when running a command line (I don't remember exactly now, I think it was something like "LC_MESSAGE=C command")

Hardy doesn't show logging? I thought it showed :S I'm currently running ufw 0.18.2, maybe Hardy has an older version?

Emilio (turl) wrote :

You could enable it for ufw 0.18.2+ probably?

On Intrepid it looks like this:

emilio@pcjuan:~$ sudo ufw status
[sudo] password for emilio:
Status: loaded
Logging: on
Default: deny
emilio@pcjuan:~$ sudo ufw version
ufw 0.18.2

Can you write your ufw version? (sudo ufw version)
