Just made a simple search query

Started the app and made my first search query. It crashed.

Search query?
There isn't even a search box...

I'm sorry; I'm a newbie. What is that bar beside the /r/? I thought it was
a search bar where I'd put query terms and find threads about them.

I tried to use the help Q&A, but there is not much to it.

BTW, it stopped crashing after I reinstaled Ubuntu 12.04 from scracth [the
crashes occurred in a 12.04 which was built upon several previous versions
by upgrading].
