Bug Description

Binary package hint: evince

There are no items in 'File' menu after opening a file or a number of files with large name or path. It is better to implement crop of names in this menu; something like 'A very large file_na...'.

Yes, it is.

In order to reproduce this you should to try to open some files with long names. For example, I opened files via smb with non-latin characters in name (these names became percent-encoded in 'File' menu). So opened files history contains some file names with rather large quantity of characters (more than 100) and 'File' menu became empty and took width of full display width (I have 1680).
After opening some files with shorter names they push down long names from history list, and 'File' menu became visible.

The empty menu issue seems fixed in jaunty but ellipsizing would still make sense the bug has been sent on http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=579845
