Bug Description

...otherwise the user can narrow them until they are uselessly small/completely hidden.

This can be done by setting the "shrink" attribute to False: http://www.pygtk.org/docs/pygtk/class-gtkpaned.html#id3756880

Adding the "love" tag, since it seems a simple bug, good for new developers to get acquainted with gtg code

I believe this is intentionally functionality, so this bug should be wontfix. Being able to hide both these panels enables maximizing the view of tasks. For instance this can be useful on small formfactor devices such as PDAs or netbooks.

Bryce, since both the tags and the closed tasks panes are able to be closed, which would be useful on the small devices, I can see having a minimum size if they are open.

A minimum size makes sense: several complained not to see the closed task pane since it was reduced to an height of 0 pixel. I guess we'd better simplify hide/show the closed task pane, for instance by using a simple key combination. I know F9 is generally attributed to sidebar, is there a typical shortcut for bottom pane?

Sorry, the bug description was not complete—Chris has it right. "uselessly small" = "small enough that you might as well close it."

In gedit (sorry for using it for all examples; it is my IDE of choice!), Ctrl+F9 is used for the bottom pane.

Paul, I think that Chris wanted to solve this himself. Next time please assign yourself a bug when you start working on it.
Well, there is plenty of bugs in the ocean anyway :-D

Ack—sorry Chris!

For what it's worth, I didn't do anything about the keyboard shortcut you mentioned for the closed tasks pane. That is still a low-hanging fruit :)
