Replace the term 'Tag'

Bug Description

On my first few times using GTG, I ended up tagging my tasks with all kinds of tags which turned out to be unuseful. 'holiday', 'trips', 'wedding', 'birthday'. I had more tags than tasks! When I organise my tasks, I want a few simple categories, not a sprawling semantic soup. ;)

GTG should ensure that its users organise their tasks in as simple a way as is possible. The idea of tags is of a kind of semantic mapping which is inappropriate to the management of tasks. A simpler language for the organisation of tasks should be used.

There are some interesting examples of alternatives to tags. Epiphany [1] uses 'Topics' for its bookmark management. That works quite well. Things [2] has 'Areas', which carries a nice set of meanings. Chandler has 'Collections' [3] (which I don't really like, actually).

Maybe GTG could use 'Categories' instead of 'Tags'? Or what about 'Areas'?

Maybe I'm wrong but I believe your problem is not really related to the term "tag" but the fact that you cannot ordering tag.

For 0.2, we want to allow tag reordering and putting tags in "categories" so you can call them as you want.
See bug #321903 and bug #321905

Maybe solving those would solve your problem ?

Anyway, nothing is really well defined so far so any suggestion/idea/mockup is warmly welcome and we thank you for your time, we appreciate a lot your feedback :-)

I'm not convinced and I think that the word "tag" has entered in the culture. We should have better tag management to avoid your issue but it will remain tag anyway according to my pov.
