Since 0.10.16 (already in karmic ) gstreamer0.10-plugins-good can use gudev instead HAL

looking to the change it seems it's not used instead but used in addition of rather, ie it's only an extra build-depends

From poking around in the gst-plugins-good tree, it looks like the HAL dependency comes down to the GstHalAudioSink and GstHalAudioSrc elements. So is it just a case of passing a configure switch to not build them or are gudev analogs required?

the upstream option is specific to the video device detection and not for audiosink use there...

Right, but the original code the gudev-using version replaces doesn't seem to have any hal dependencies. It's hard coded to just check "/dev/video" and "/dev/v4l2/video" and doesn't seem to use the hal enumerate device functions. But perhaps I'm missing the larger picture. So for the larger HALsectomy question the only dependency left in gst-plugins-good is for the two elements.

The dependency was dropped in the sync with Debian in 0.10.17.3-1ubuntu1.
