What about other gtk applications? Is there the same problem when you do `sudo gedit`?

I don't have problems with other apps. sudo gedit starts gedit with su permissions and no errors. I tried to troubleshoot the Gtk-WARNING **: cannot open display: but after extensive googling and multiple restarts I wasn't able to get anywhere.

This can be closed. I did a fresh install of 15.10 then reinstalled grub-customizer and it functions as expected. I'm not sure what was causing the problem previously.
