GC cannot login to lp on lucid

The GC cannot login anymore. After logging in successfully in the pop-up window.
The window shows the proper content of the account home page and properly closes, but instead of the
user window the GC shows only the login/register window again (after showing user search window for few seconds).
I have checked if the trick with touching settings.yaml helps but it does not.
This is on lucid. I will be happy to help to debug the issue. Without GC it is much more difficult to just start the project and start coding.
