Bug Description

In grokproject post 0.12 (so the first public release) we should stop generating a find-links section in the buildout.cfg. Right now we still create one that points to download.zope.org

Changed in grok:
assignee: nobody → maurits-vanrees

This has been fixed on the grokproject trunk in r87718.

Current versions of grokproject still install this link (or again) in buildout.cfg:

find-links = http://download.zope.org/distribution/

What is the reason this link gets added? We need to get rid of this before 1.0 as we cannot rely on download.zope.org/distribution's continued existence, nor can we rely on the soundness of any half-baked releases in there.

Why 'find-links' has been readded?

After removing it from grokproject we had several complaints on the mailing-list about "incompatibilities" with megrok.from and dependent packages. megrok.form depends (indirectly) on packages not available at the standard PyPI, z3c.javascript. for instance.

During discussion it turned out, that there are also other problems with these dependency packages (legal ones).

IMO there are two ways to solve this issue:

1) Simply remove 'find-links' from grokproject. In this case we had to face complaints again and a reduced "user experience".

2) Release a version of megrok.form not depending on that unwanted packages any more and remove 'find-links' afterwards. I think Santiago tried to do so, yet without complete success if I do not miss anything.

What way should we go?

Let's remove it, with a note in the upgrate notes of Grok that if they
rely on megrok.form they should add this back again to their buildout
manually.

Hopefully we can make some progress on megrok.form too again.

Okay, remove it.

I'll ask Santiago how things are going on.
