Bug Description

I would like to be able to rename terminal tabs. When using byobu/tmux in an ssh session tab name turns into something like

...hat.com - byobu (0)

 which is completely uninformative.

Agreed, the lack of tab renaming functionality gets really annoying after the third or fourth tab, I find myself switching between tabs often to figure out what is open where which is really inefficient.

Assigning to elementary-design for them to decide yes/no on the feature and how it should be implemented.

Scratch used to have a feature where you could rename a tab by double clicking it and an entry would show inside the tab. I think this was a pretty neat solution.

Since we now have two cases for this feature upstream, I think the work for this should probably occur in Granite.

Another thing that might be interesting to consider however, is if we can intelligently auto-rename tabs based on the folder you ran from and the last command ran there. So you'd have tab names like "~/: apt-get" "Noise: cmake" etc etc

yeah, it sounds like there's two things here:

1. Support for double-click-to-rename in Granite tabs.
2. Create an algorithm/scheme for creating intelligent tab names.

Perhaps a blueprint is in order for #2?

Why would you mark this invalid for Granite if one of your items is tab renaming in Granite -_-

In the interest of "Don't give your users shit work", tabs not automatically label themselves based on their location or the currently running/last run command.

I'm going to mark this incomplete for Terminal as I believe we may have solved the issue automatically.
